Manufacturing Technician - Conventional

ASL Technical is working with a leading Electronics Manufacturing company based in Worthing, West Sussex. This business is dedicated to delivering tailored, practical solutions for our partners.

We seek a Manufacturing Technician for the PCB Conventional assembly department, with a focus on assisting the running of the Selective Solder machine. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience of soldering, and electro-mechanical assembly within a manufacturing environment, with strong PC/Technology literacy suitable for machine operation. Experience working from engineering drawings, bills of materials, and build instructions would be highly beneficial. This role requires excellent attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Skills and competency tests may form part of the selection process.

Job Purpose:

To carry out the precise electro-mechanical assembly of both proprietary and contract-manufactured electronic products, ensuring adherence to established manufacturing processes, quality standards, and safety protocols. The role involves working with SMT and PTH technologies, interpreting technical documentation, and maintaining high standards of workmanship. The technician will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support production targets, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and defect-free output. A strong emphasis is placed on quality control, process compliance, and proactive problem-solving within a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Duties/Tasks will include:

  • PCB Assembly (SMT & PTH)
  • Component Forming
  • Hand Soldering
  • ESD process compliance
  • Completing documentation

Manufacturing Technician - skills/knowledge required:

  • Able to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials (BOM)
  • Health & Safety focussed, ensuring a well organised and tidy workspace
  • Must be able to work within a team and communicate clearly
  • Experience of working in a Lean manufacturing environment would be an advantage
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Consistently produce high quality work, workmanship defect free.
  • Work effectively to deadlines
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to challenges
  • Dexterity, good hand and eye coordination.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Previous manufacturing experience is desirable
  • Basic computer literacy
  • At least 1+ years of experience & awareness of IPC
  • You must be educated to a reasonable level (GCSE English and Maths)
  • Certified to IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 would be beneficial but not essential as full training will be provided to both standards
