ASL Technical are now working with a leading aerospace and defence manufacturer as they look to expand their Pyro Radiography team.
Main Purpose of Pyro Radiographer
This role supports the manufacturing operations by carrying out Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques such as digital x-ray imaging and helium leak testing on explosive devices such as cartridges and rocket motors. The position also involves maintaining high standards of safety, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating across various departments to ensure product quality and compliance.
Responsibilities of Pyro Radiographer

Carry out leak testing using Veeco equipment to measure helium escapement via a mass spectrometer.

Perform part marking with relevant production and test data.

Operate x-ray imaging systems, shoot and interpret digital images to identify defects or inconsistencies.

Adhere to all health and safety procedures, including Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and Explosive Safety protocols.

Participate in audits and maintain procedural compliance.

Support training and skill development plans in coordination with team leaders.

Contribute to a continuous improvement culture using the 5S methodology.

Collaborate closely with Team Leaders, Quality Control, Engineering, Production Control, and other departments to resolve technical and process issues.
Experience / Knowledge for the Pyro Radiographer

Prior experience in an NDT environment is essential.

Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, route cards, and technical documentation.

Strong data analysis and PC skills.

Ability to work under pressure and balance multiple priorities.

Excellent verbal communication and a collaborative team-oriented mindset.

Ability to work independently when required.

Education: Basic education required – GCSE Grades 3-7 or equivalent.

This is a permanent opportunity offering a competitive salary + 20% shift allowance on a 4 on / 4 off shift patter basis.
